ezra on lil missy

so, for those of you who don't know, we keep the names of our babies a surprise ... it makes things more fun for mom and dad, while giving us more time to decide on a name! (and yes, we officially need to get our act together and pick a name considering she could be here in less than 4 weeks!)

in the mean time, ezra has become quite involved in the process. he thinks her first name is lil missy, although that is her nickname in utero, just like ezra's was boo when he was just a wee bun in the oven. therefore, ezra has been into picking her "second time."

his top five:
tow pow
train
track
pine cone - this one stuck for a while
cell phone - has a nice ring to it, don't you think? :)

just recently, he figured out that he and eric have the same "second name" = john. therefore, ezra has been insistent that lil missy and i do, too = elizabeth! nice knowledge transference, eh?!?

all this to say, it has been SO, SO fun that ezra is old enough to understand missy's arrival because he has been incredibly sweet and totally into it!

for example, i was talking to eric last night about the fact that i was worried i would still be on crutches when lil missy came and that i couldn't hold her walking. (yes, i am 9-months pregnant and have been on crutches for the past 48-hours. i was walking across my living room tuesday night - in a perfectly straight line, mind you - when i heard a loud SNAP and i suddenly doubled over in pain and couldn't walk. yes, it has not been good. i'll finish this story some other time. :)

all this to say, ezra was eaves-dropping on the conversation and said, "don't you worry, mommy. daddy can hold our baby, and i can hold our baby!" sweetie. already taking good care of lil sis.

sidenote: how precious that he refers to her as OUR baby! love it! (thanks, uncle adam, for the big brother book!)

the other night ezra informed us of all the things he was going to do when missy arrives. he plans to:

-show her all his toys
-show her all her clothes from AJ
-sing her songs
-say "look at me, lil missy" (straight out of his big brother book)
-feed her
-bathe her
-help change her diaper
-give her her paci when she cries
-give her hugs and "kissies"

if my 3-year-old plans on doing all of that, shoot! what does she need me for?!?! :)

we've also talked a lot about when she arrives she'll cry a lot because that is her way of talking to us. we've talked about being gentle, sharing, etc, etc. ezra wanted to know what would be up with his tracks. i told him that eventually that she'll be big enough that she will want to play with his tracks, but that she'll probably mess them up at first since she won't quite know how to play with them. this is DEFINITELY an area of concern for ezra. so now when we talk about what things will be like when she comes, he always lists "she'll mess up my tracks" as one of his bullet points! however, recently, he has started adding, "but i'll teach her how to fix them!" BIG BROTHER SWEETIE PIE!!!

one last story:
this evening ezra was playing with this little plastic piece like it was a whip and ran up to me (on my crutches, mind you) and accidentally ran into my belly (yikes, skin is SUPER sensitive these days!). the following convo ensues:

k: "ouch, ezra, you scratched me on my belly!"
e: "did i scratch lil missy?:
k: "yes!!"
*ezra's face darkens with concern, bottom lip trimbling like he is about to cry.
e: "is lil missy crying?"
k: "yes, on the inside." (no, i am not a terrible parent.)
at this point, ezra proceeds to lift my shirt up and give my tummy a kiss and say "i hope you feel better lil missy."

twenty minutes pass. i finally straggle upstairs, 9-month pregnant belly, crutches and all, to tuck ezra into bed after eric has bathed him. ezra's runs up to me, and first words out of his mouth:

k: "is lil missy's boo boo all better?"
i look at him sort of confused and he reminds me, "i poked her with my whip!"
next thing i know he pulls up my shirt and asks, "are you ok, lil missy?"
i pretend to be her in a squeaky high voice and say, "yes! thank you, ezra!"
e: "when she comes out, i'm going to squeeze her."
i asked him why, and he said, "because my nana gives me big squeezes!"

um, yes, i pretty much could squeeze THIS little man to death!!! i can NOT wait to see what kind of a big brother he will be ... i have a feeling he will be JUST precious!

Honey, you are so blessed in your sweet little boy, He will be a helper which is what his name means. He has been so sweet with AJ and he will with this little girl as well. Nana looks forward to giving both Ezra and little Missy big Squeezes. Children are a blessing and a reward from God as are grandchildren!!! What a joy Ezra has been!!!
