theology - according to ezra

at bedtime this evening

e - mom, do we have school tomorrow?
k - nope, it's the weekend!
10 minutes pass with singing, praying, etc.  time to go to sleep.  ezra asks me to sleep with him "just for a minute." from the dark:
e - mom, what's the week?
k - huh?
e- you know the weak?
k  - what are you talking about buddy?  where did you hear that?
e - you just said that!  a few minutes ago!  you know, the week in Waco!
k - ohhh! you mean the weekend.  (slow train here.)  that's the last two days at the end of the week.  there are seven days in a week.
e - 7 DAYS IN A WEEK?!?!  that is awesome!!! (shades of his mother)
k - why is that awesome, buddy?
e - because that's so many days!
k - you know why mommy loves the weekend?  because it's the two days our whole family gets to be together.  there's NO school and NO work and only church!
e - CHURCH?! uhh! (in total disgust) MO-OM! WHAT-ever!! (shades of his father)
k - ezra, why do you say that about church? (he's been in relative rebellion about church ever since his best friend from church moved away last august.)  church is so important!  that's where we are with other people who love Jesus and a place where we can go and learn about Jesus!
e - oooh!  that's good!  mommy, why don't some people like church?
k - i don't know, buddy. what do you think?
e - well, maybe some people don't want to learn about Jesus.  or maybe they don't need His help?
k - or maybe they don't understand who He is because they think He's different than who He really is?
e - WHAT?!?!  MO-OM!  Jesus is never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever different.
k - oh really buddy?  why do you say that? because He understands everyone and why they are happy or why they are sad?
e - YEP!  because God knows everybody!
k - He sure does big guy.
e - night night, mom. i love you!

amazing how a four-year-old can recognize that even though humanity is all together different, our all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful God understands and loves each one of us all!
