learning to share

ezra has been learning all sorts of new things lately - in particular, how to share! yes, although he does not have a little sibling at home, bun bun, our rabbit who we have owned for seven years now, is as good as it gets, and as you can see, ezra takes great delight in stocking his cage full of fun things every day! earlier this week, eric walked into bun bun's bathroom after putting ezra down for a nap, only to discover that ezra had filled his entire cage with balls and had dragged his whole basketball goal into the room! maybe ezra thought bun bun would practice dunking in his spare time?

the fact that ezra does this is really quite amazing. eric and i have decided that he and buns have a very special relationship. for those of you who don't know buns, he is very territorial when it comes to his "personal space" either when he is 1 - inside his cage or 2 - using his litter box. now, when eric and i get inside that personal space, bun bun growls and lunges at us, but for whatever reason, when EZRA does, buns is as happy as a lark! in fact, ezra has even completely CRAWLED inside bun's cage a few times, and he doesn't mind! (although we certainly do NOT encourage this.) needless to say, we marvel at their connection, and we are grateful that ezra loves animals like his parents (especially his mommy). :)

ezra saying "boom" after slam dunking a ball into bun bun's cage. all boy. tru.lee.
yes, my child is trying to kiss bun bun or lick his cage or something entirely sanitary like that in the photo here. speaking of sanitary, just for the record (more baby book action), ezra has eaten bun bun's terds (those delightful cocoa puff things you see floating about in the pics) NOT once - NOT twice - but THREE times! i assure you, despite this dismal record, we ARE responsible, caring, attentive parents! (although ezra's sweet friend brooks' has also feasted on this rare delicacy one evening while we were babysitting him at our house - now THAT was exciting getting to tell his parents when they came home! - maybe that's why they decided to move all the way to georgia! :)

more words:
also, on a side note, i was away from eric and ezra on a hall director's retreat wednesday through friday evening. (great time bonding, brainstorming, resting, and overall retreating with fellow hall direcotrs!) when i returned home, ezra had added several words to his booming vocabulary:
"watch!" - yes, complete with the "ch" sound @ the end - referring to his baby einstein videos
"wash" - you would think it was his new parttime job, washing his hands. really it's just a fun opportunity to play in the water and get all wet!
"waaa" - referring to the above mentioned water getting all over himself
"baaath" - again, a new water word. his favorite thing: throwing his stuffed animals in the tub and yelling, "bath!"
"wheee!" - for wheels on the bus (his fav song) and which he also says when i pull him in his wagon and he runs his hand over the wheel below
"bok" - for blocks, which he enjoys stacking and crashing
"spoo" - for spoon, which we are working on. he's good @ feeding himself yogurt.
"box" - literally the very word - they are in several of his "bups"
"Pot" - referring to one of his favorite characters from his "bups" - Spot, the fun little doggie. This am, I asked Ezra where Spot was while we were in the bathroom, and he shrugged his shoulders, raised his hands in a questoin, and ran to his bedroom where he proceeded to dig through his mound of books piled in his bedroom floor stacked up next to his rocker until he found his Spot book, which he promptly brought to me. When I sat down in the hallway, he backed into me for a good read - this was a definite must (clearly) in preparation for going to church today!
He's also been trying really hard to say "zebra" but we're not quite there yet. :)

I can see the Spot book and hear the Wheels on the Bus song. I know that basketball goal so I can picture him dragging it into Bun-bun. I am so glad he loves all of these things and that I can picture him doing these things. Thank you for these sweet stories of the life and times of Ezra John. I know Ezra was sharing his best when he filled Bun-bun's cage with balls--his favortie things. Great pictures and stories! Love, Nana
