the other day, i (eric) was putting ezra down for the night. before he goes to bed, kendel and i have started praying with him. this amounts to the phrase "God bless" followed by a list of names, each of which he repeats after us. so as i'm going through the names that are typically on the list, i get to our dear friends aaron and jenny and their two children isaac and newly born lucy. i say the first three names and ezra repeats. when i get to lucy's name, i pause (because my brain doesn't always work very fast). well, before i could get out the name 'lucy,' ezra beats me to it and says her name without any prompting! amazing, right? of course, the pride i feel in ezra's ability to do this is counterbalanced by the shame i feel in the fact that my not-even-two-year-old child was capable of recalling my friend's child's name faster than i was. something tells me this won't be that last time that ezra is quicker than me. i guess i should get used to it - i just didn't expect to so soon!

I have a hard enough time remember all my adult friends let a lone all my kids friends. Plus they seem to make new ones everyday.
Then you have more kids and the names just keep growing and growing... I just hope to remember my wife's names and my kids names in 20 years.
