lately, ezra has learned how to "swim" during bathtime. this means that i say, "ezra swim," and he responds by laying on his belly and making arm motions that mimic swimming. its cute. however, he has begun to use it to his advantage. now when we go to wash his face (something he hates!), he immediately dives onto his belly and shouts, "I SVIM! I SVIM" in a panicked voice as if it were imperative that he begin swimming right then. again, cute. in a related story, ezra was in the tub the other day, and i (kendel) was putting my jammies on. ezra looked up at me and with a giggle in his voice says, "mama (giggle) . . . nakey jaybird!" (yes, that is what we always call him when he's naked during bathtime.) TOO CUTE!
one of ezra's new favorite activities is going across the street to get the mail. when we give him the key chain, he locates the correct key all by himself (how did he figure that out, we still don't know??!) and will carry it poised for action between his right thumb and index finger the whole way across the street. when we get there, he unlocks the box all on his own - yes, he finds the right one w/o us showing him! this afternoon, ezra asked eric, "'ere mail key do?" (where's the mail key). eric said he wasn't sure and that he thought it might be upstairs. ezra responded in all seriousness, "ok, i find it!" LOL!!!
ezra and i stayed home from church today - 4th sunday in a row. first two weeks he and i were sick. last sunday he had pink eye. this sunday he was throwing up on friday night and then was up quite a bit saturday night with pain in his belly, so we just decided to keep him home and take it easy. anyway, he and i had a sweet little lunch together. i took him to the fridge to eat, and he was crying because he was really tired, but he needed to eat first because i didn't want him to wake from his nap early starving. i asked him if he wanted apples - a whispered "no" with a head shake (i hope we can catch this on camera b/c it is SOO cute!) did he want bread - a 2nd whispered "no" and head shake. then he started muttering "blueb!" "blueb!" i asked him if he wanted blueberry yogurt to which he whispered back "bueberry yogi." i knew this meant yes. SCORE! so i plopped my chair right in front of his highchair using his tray like our shared table. ezra too joyfully pointed out "mommy's yogi" (which was peach for those of you wondering) and "eza's yogi" (blueberry, of course). then i got out some crackers, salami, and cheese for homemade lunchables. ezra grabbed a cracker and stated "eza's cacker and momma's cacker." he pulled out the salami which he used to call "tookie" (cookie) b/c he thought they looked like cookies since they were in the shape of a big circle. this time, he said, "ham!" i said, "no baby that's actually salami" and he stated "eza's salmi." TOO CUTE! he then started flopping it and waving it in the air and informed me "i shake salmi! i shake salmi!" we proceeded to eat our little meal together talking back and forth. halfway through our meal he stated, "i thirsty." what happened to the days when all he grunted was "milll" when he wanted something to drink?? suddenly he has connected thirst to milk? at one point he asked to "wash hands" b/c he had gotten yogurt on his mouth and hands and didn't want to be dirty. he's not a fan of being dirty - no sand, dirt, food, nothing (i'm hoping he won't be the same with snow when we're home for Christmas soon). after finishing up, ezra pulled his bib and stated, "bib off! eza all done!"
at the end of lunch, it hit me in a new way what a big boy ezra has become and how much he is growing and changing. it's amazing to watch a little person develop right before your eyes with wants, wishes, and desires. and it is more and more fun as he is learning how to communicate those better. we are so proud of him and love him more than we knew was humanly possible! he brings so much light and laughter and love to our lives.
