normalcy ... ?

we are now home from the hospital . ezra has been seizure-free since sunday. these are both good things! we are still in the process of waiting for answers, but life is slowly returning back to some kind of normalcy. of course, "normal" before sunday is very different from "normal" after sunday, but i guess that is how life works. our new normal requires adjusting to the fact that our child likely has some kind of seizure disorder. whether or not this will last his entire life is still a question to which we don't have an answer, but our doctor encouraged us that many children grow out of seizures that begin in childhood. we pray that this is the case with ezra. we are still waiting for the results of the eeg and the echocardiogram. this will give us some answers, but likely not all of the answers we would like. one piece of good news is that the ct-scan came back clean which means ezra's brain structure is healthy and normal which means there is a greater chance he will grow out of these seizures.

ezra, on the other hand, doesn't realize that he might have a seizure disorder. no one has told him that he is supposed to be worried, upset, scared, or any of those emotions that we adults feel. and so instead, he joyfully runs around the house, plays with his trains like its his full-time job, and makes us laugh with his infectious smile. this, of course, makes the new normal a little easier for mom and dad.

below is a video of us singing to ezra as he fell asleep as his eeg began. it makes us tear up each time we see it, but at the same time, we feel that it is a sweet picture of our family - ezra surrounded by two parents who love him more than life itself. during this time, ezra was both literally and figuratively being carried on the wings of prayer. (ps - the white noise in the background is ezra's hypnotic device that helps signal to him that it's time to sleep. :) for obvious reasons, we don't leave home without it. :)
